What to wear on your flight

While airlines continue to crack down on the size, weight and quantity of personal items, carry-ons and luggage, no one has come out with limits on what you wear on the plane. Use this to your advantage.
The outfit you wear on the plane should be your bulkiest outfit, so that your packed clothes are thinner, lighter and flatter. Consider wearing an extra layer in case the plane is cold. Or wear a windbreaker, rain jacket or coat with lots of pockets which you can fill with miscellaneous extras.
The bonus is that these items can double as pillows, blankets, back wedges or padding for seats that can otherwise be rather uncomfortable. All your clothes should be wrinkle-resistant so they'll emerge from the trip just fine, and even if you do spill a drink on them, you'll be doing laundry mid-trip anyhow.
Some companies have caught on to this shortcut and offer travel clothing. It looks fun and practical. It also looks expensive, and you can probably get the same value from thinking ahead and making well thought out wardrobe choices. The money we've saved on consignment shops has totaled more than enough to pay for a couple round-trip international plane tickets.
